Day 20: Sugar Cookies

muffin tinEveryone knows Christmas baking season isn’t complete without your basic decorated sugar cookie. For sugar cookie dough you can either roll the dough out, roll into a log shape, or do what we did! We have this fun muffin type pan with all different Christmas cutouts that we decided to use instead of rolling the dough out and cutting with cookie cutters– they turned out great! Update: they have now been iced and there is an icing pic below! : )

– 1 1/4 cup sugar
– 1 cup crisco
– 1 egg
– 1 tsp vanilla
– 2 1/2 cups flour
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp baking soda
– 1 tsp cream of tartar

1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Beat crisco and sugar until creamy. Add egg and vanilla and beat until combined.
3. Then add all of your dry ingredients: flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar. Mix on low until combined.
4. Then you have a few options. You can roll into a log shape and cut slices, roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and use cookie cutters or use a printed muffin tin and press the dough into the shapes like we did!
5. Bake for 10 minutes. If decorating, which you totally should, wait at least 30 minutes.
